Creating your own team

If your club allows it, you can start a team yourself and become its captain — with a commissioner's approval.

You don't have to wait for someone to build a team for you. If your club has it switched on, you can start one yourself and become its captain.

First, check it's available to you

Look under My Teams on your profile for a Create a team button.

If it isn't there, one of two things is true: your club hasn't enabled rider-created teams, or you're not yet eligible. Clubs choose between letting riders already on a team ask, or everyone including prospects. If you're a prospect and can't ask yet, the app will tell you what would unblock you — being placed on a roster — rather than leaving you guessing.

Either way, your commissioner can switch it on.

Making the request

Profile → My Teams → Create a team opens a four-step wizard:

  1. League — which competition the team will race in
  2. Details — the team's name and setup
  3. A note to your commissioner — why you want it
  4. Review — check it over and send
Write the note properly

It's the only part a commissioner can't work out for themselves. They can see your category, your numbers and the teams you're already on — what they can't see is what this team is for. A development squad for newer riders, a second team because yours is oversubscribed, a group who all race the same slot: any of those makes the decision easy. A blank note makes it a guess.

What happens next

Your request goes to your club's commissioners for review — captains can't approve these. It arrives in their notification bell alongside loan requests and verifications, showing the team's details, your category and FTP, the teams you're already on, and your note.

OutcomeWhat happens
ApprovedYou become captain of the new team, it gets its own page, and you're placed on its roster
RejectedYou get an email with the reason, and the team name is freed up for someone else

Limits

You can have one open request per club at a time, and make three a day. If yours is still pending, wait for an answer rather than sending another.

Once you're captain

You're now responsible for filling the roster. The Captain guide covers it, but the two things to do first are: invite your riders using the code on your team page, and set your line-up before race night.
